Four Things to Do on "National No Housework Day"

I’ve got great news: Thursday, April 7 is "No Housework Day!"

Put down that broom and step away from those dirty dishes. All of that can wait at least one more day. Today, we’re all about relaxing and spending the day doing the things we love. In fact, here are a few suggestions for some fun things you can do instead of cleaning up today (or the rest of the weekend for that matter). These are some of my favorite activities to do to get out of the house.

Go for a picnic

When the weather is nice, I am always down for a picnic. Bomb food, quality time with loved ones, and beautiful surroundings: what’s not to love? I’m also fortunate enough to live in an area with great local parks, so I love to take advantage of that and visit them as often as possible. I beg you, though... leave the raisins out of the potato salad.

Gardening

This one’s not for everyone, because it is still somewhat laborious, but I personally find gardening to be relaxing and very rewarding. I really enjoy getting to work with my hands and I love getting to see the fruits of my labor when my flowers bloom. A bonus is that your hard work really pays off when you get to use in your home what you’ve grown, whether that’s beautiful flowers to serve as décor or wonderful fruits and vegetables you can eat. For me, gardening is a godsend – I get all of these benefits, and it also sparks inspiration for new candle scents for NuMe Moods.

 "Relax" (at home)

There are some days when nothing beats the feeling of spending the day at home relaxing. The days that I actually get to do this are too few and too far in between, so when they happen, I make sure to take full advantage of them and, if I can help it, I don’t leave the house (and barely leave the couch). My favorite ways to indulge on these self-care days are to watch a movie marathon, pamper myself with an extra luxe skin care routine, order in my favorite foods, and light a NuMe Moods candle to de-stress.

Treat Yourself

If you ask me, there are few things in life better than being pampered. And when you’re getting that massage or getting your nails done, you won’t even be thinking about the cleaning that's waiting to be done at home! Indulging in beauty services may not be something we can do all the time, but occasionally treating ourselves to a day of relaxation is a great way to melt away the stresses of everyday life. Gift certificates to a local salon or spa are also great gifts to ask for during the holidays! That way, you can use them during extra stressful times without having to worry about the expense.

No matter how you choose to celebrate National No Housework Day, I hope it’s a day you can enjoy yourself and put off those responsibilities at home for at least one more day! What are your favorite ways to procrastinate housework?
